Joseph Dion Ngute, Prime Minister of Cameroon, inspected the construction site of the Sanaga drinking water treatment plant in Yaoundé on Aug 7.

The project is currently undertaken by China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC), a subsidiary of Sinomach.

During the visit, the prime minister inspected the Batchenga drinking water treatment plant, the raw water pump station, the fresh water pressure pump station, the substation and the main yards around the project site.

A conference was also held afterward, where Ngute learned the opinions of all sectors of society on the water projects.

The prime minister expressed his approval of CMEC’s performance, stating that the project will greatly improve the living conditions of local citizens and promote social and economic development in the area.

He also encouraged CMEC to strengthen cooperation with the local government in promoting the project and make it a new monument of China-Cameroon friendship.

The Sanaga drinking water treatment project is the largest international project under construction in Cameroon. It is funded by the Export-Import Bank of China, and will process 300,000 cubic meters of water per day upon completion.

The construction started on December 30, 2016 and is currently well underway.
